Star Robins of the week

Another week has passed.
Well done for completing as much of the home learning as you can.

This week we have started reading on Purple Mash; I hope you are enjoying the story.

Just a few reminders

  1. You must complete the Purple Mash Reading activities unless you have e-mailed to let Mr Lo know another book you are reading and writing about .
  2. Every week you can e-mail Mr Lo a weekly update of all the home learning you have done.
  3. As before, you are expected to go on Maths Shed, Spelling Shed and TTRS. During the lock down learning you are recommended to go on each one for 5-10 minutes every day.
  4. If you are struggling with any of the work do e-mail Mr Lo and he can advise you on what to do.

This weeks Star Home Learners are Zach and Amaya . Both have showed improvement in their perseverance and their hard work has paid off. Well done!

Zach has been persevering in doing all the lock down work and making it meaningful for him. His idea of writing a daily reflection is excellent.

Amaya has shown great concentration with the home learning and even reflected areas she needs to review. She knew she was not sure how to use to, too and two correctly so she did some extra learning. Super Stuff!

All about the Amrit Ceremony

Dylan has kindly provided further information about the Amrit Ceremony.

The Amrit Ceremony is the initiation rite introduced by Guru Gobind Singh when he founded the Khalsa in 1699. A Sikh can go through this initiation as soon as they are old enough to understand the full commitment that they are making. They are known as an Amritdhari Sikh.

Once they have gone through this initiation ceremony, they commit themselves to the Khalsa. This means that they wear the five Ks,

These are the kesh, which is uncut hair; the kanga, a wooden comb; the kara, a steel bracelet; kaccha, cotton underwear; and the kirpan, a small sword.

  1. Naam Japna

Remembering God through meditation all times of day and night during each activity.

  1. Kirat Karo

Earning a livelihood by means of earnest, honest efforts and endeavors:

  1. Vand Chakko

Selflessly serving others, sharing income and resources including foodstuffs or other goods.

Requirements for members of the Khalsa

Once a Sikh has been initiated into the Khalsa, they are expected to follow the strict rules of the Rahit Maryada.

The rules that must be followed include:

  • Certain prayers must be recited or heard at least twice a day. These are the Japji Sahib, the Jap Sahib, the Ten Swayyas, the Sodar Rahiras and the Sohila.
  • The five Ks must be worn. These are the kesh, which is uncut hair; the kanga, a wooden comb; the kara, a steel bracelet; kaccha, cotton underwear; and the kirpan, a small sword.
  • They must not cut their hair. They must also keep it clean and wear a turban.
  • They should not eat meat that has been ritually slaughtered (such as halal meat). However, most Amritdhari Sikhs are vegetarian.

Here is a picture of my Uncle preparing for the initiation ceremony.

Keep on persevering!

Well done to all of you who are keeping up with the home learning.  I have enjoyed receiving your home learning and looking at your progress.

Zach has e-mailed in his work and gone one step further. He’s wrote a reflection of the day.  This is a really good habit as it allows you think about all the things you have done today.  Well done !

My home-schooling day reflection: Monday 11th January 2021

My favourite learning today was

Leaning about Julius Caesar in Topic.

The most interesting thing I have learned today was

That Tutankhamun was disabled.

The thing I struggled most on today was

Concentrating

What I think I will do differently tomorrow is

Maths
