Evie tested out whether or not the Naughty Elf was real! Naly doesn’t think he is…
Evie left the elf a note… as well as some chocolates.
In no time at all she found the elf had eaten all the chocolates, left the wrappers thrown around, then wrote a note back!
Apparently the elf’s name is Ian!

Year 4 started their day with reading newspapers. It made a lovely change and a great way to share UK and world news with the class.
We found out some great pieces of news:
Amber – A holographic elephant has been roaming the streets of London.
Nally – A French museum made 82 fake paintings.
Sophia – Twins ran 100km to raise money for hospitals.
Mohammed – Stephen Hawkins was the most famous scientist who wrote a book as well as many other theories.
Phoebe – A hidden lake on Mars was discovered.
Elliott – A whale died after eating plastic bags, it vomitted 5 plastic bags before dying.
Poppy – At the royal wedding there were 6 bridesmaids and 4 pageboys.
Ruby D – Shocking news…. several “vanilla” ice creams had NO traces of actual vanilla!!!!!!!
Year 4 loved reading the newspapers and finding so many interesting facts. We are looking forward to delving into them again.

In RE, Year 4 Robins have started to look at The Four Noble Truths, which are one of Buddha’s key teachings in the Buddhism religion. The children have learnt all about what the four truths are and can even tell you some of the special names.
The final truth mentions how people can end suffering by following The Eightfold Path. Today in RE, the children learnt all 8 areas of life that people follow and focus on towards the path of Buddhism.

The children then chose three of these areas to write about and explain what they include.
In Year 4 we decided that we should have a circle time around friendship. We started off discussing what a friend is and how friends should treat each other. After hearing many lovely answers we then moved on to discussing how friends should not behave towards each other. Many different things were bought up and as a class we agreed with most things that were mentioned. Friendship is something we are working really hard on in Year 4 at the moment and the children have shown that they know how important it is to be a good friend and treat friends in the right way.
As part of anti-bullying week Year 4 have been discussing online safety. They watched a number of short clips all based around the adventures of Kara, Winston and the SMART Crew. After each clip the class shared their thoughts about what they had just watched. Here are some of their ideas below:
During the last couple of lessons in Computing with Mr Baddhan, Year 4 Robins have been creating two player car racing games in Scratch.
The children have shown some fantastic understanding of the event and motion blocks, some even using variables to count each lap.

Today we learnt about the famous artist Picasso.
He created some amazing paintings in the style named cubism. He used unusual shapes and blocks of colour.
Year 4 rolled a dice to help choose unusual facial features and create a picasso like face. They then coloured them in, in his style.
We had some great results! Have a look.
Year 4 Robins watched what a Today Robins watched what a volcanic eruption would be like….well we tried!
Using Ammonium Dichromate we tried to simulate a volcanic eruption.
By heating the bottom of the conical flask we simulated the heat built up inside a volcano. Usually when the Ammonium heats it flares giving a green gas as it ignites. The green gas is nitrogen and can be smelly, but we had glass wool plugging the top of the flask.
We did see some sparks and the chemical reaction did create a lot of smoke in the flask. Unfortunately because the Ammonium did not stay as one lump (it spread out a bit too thinly) it did not create a hugely exciting reaction.
Hopefully the next class to do it will get a better result and we can watch their attempt!

We learnt that not all experiments will work first time, and that it is important to watch carefully as some chemical reactions are super fast. We did enjoy it though. It was a little bit like watching miniature fireworks in the flask! Another exciting science lesson in Robins class.

Today in Science, Year 4 have been looking at different types of rock. They have been introduced to the three main types of rock (sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous) and have had a quick look at some examples ready for tomorrow’s lesson. As well as these we also looked at fossils and minerals.
The children seem really excited to get a closer look at the different types of rock. They will be drawing what they can see in a magnifying glass, labelling the rocks and describing the structure of each.
